On Friday 24th April, Dublin South Toastmasters hosted the Area 54 Speech and Evaluation Competition. Dublin South Toastmasters is one of 5 clubs in Area 54, which covers the Stillorgan and Sandyford region.
The event was due to take place at the Clayton Hotel, our usual venue, but given the ongoing Covid-19 situation it clearly had to move online. This represented the first time the Area competition was hosted online.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Phillip Khan Panni. Phillip is a very accomplished Toastmaster and an acclaimed speaker, trainer and writer. He runs his own communications consultancy and is a founder director of the Professional Speakers Association. He placed 2nd at the International Speech Contest in 1995. On the evening, Phillip gave an excellent speech about search for his identity growing up. It was truly an honor to have Philip speak at our club (albeit virtually).
It was a terrific evening and ran very smoothly with some excellent speeches. Michael and Peter from our club represented us in the Speech and Evaluation Competition respectively. Michael faced stiff competition on the night and was unlucky not to place. Peter came 2nd in the Evaluation Competition on the night and went on to represent the club at the District Level.
